The Button Paused

Angie Chen Button has been in office for 18 years! While she has voted conservatively in the distant past, her current voting record does not align with the Republican Party of Texas. This caused the Dallas County Republican Party Executive Committee to censure Button. Continue reading to find out why we think it's time for new leadership in District 112.

PACS OVER PEOPLE

Some of Button's top contributors are from PACs (Political Action Committees) making her beholden to them and not to her constituents. Some of the PACs that have contributed to her campaign: Texas REALTORS, Texas Apartment Association, Texans for Lawsuit Reform, Texas Sands, and Valero Energy Corporation. Greg Abbott and Dade Phelan have also been top contributors at $140,000+! Visit Follow the Money or Transparency USA to see who her other contributors are.

VOTED FOR DEMOCRAT CHAIRS

In addition to voting for Dustin Burrows instead of David Cook (RPT recommended) for Speaker of the House, Button has voted to allow Democrats to chair and vice-chair committees. This is unacceptable in a Republican run legislature. Read more here.

BUTTON GOES NUCLEAR

In August 2025, Button along with other House members went "nuclear" when she and other reps supported the “nuclear option” motion. This stopped debate and amendment opportunities and allowed the Democrats the opportunity to flee Texas and break quorum delaying the congressional redistricting vote. For more info on the quorum break, read here.

EDUCATION

Vouchers are a hot topic amongst Republicans. Angie, along with the majority of Republicans voted to send public funds to private schools. She also voted to allow school district employees to serve on Appraisal Review Boards. (This directly affects property taxes! 24 Republicans voted with all but one Democrat on this bill.) "She voted for a bill that incentivizes school districts to require educators to use prepackaged, statewide curriculum designed by the Texas Education Agency." It's time to put the I back in ISD!

GUNS

Instead of voting for permitless carry in 2021, she voted present, which means she didn't take a stand on the issue.

DIODES INTERNATIONAL

Button serves on the board of Diodes International as Lead, Independent Director Chair, Governance and Stockholder Relations Committee Chair, & the Compensation Committee. Diodes is a semiconductor company which acquired Texas Instruments in 2019. Button worked for TI for 35 years.
